Swine Flu vaccine to be offered to older people
November 17, 2009
If you’re over 65, you should be getting a letter from the Health Service Executive sometime in the next fortnight offering you the swine flu vaccine, either from your GP or at a special HSE Clinic.
Swine Flu vaccine now on offer to children aged 6 months to 5 years
November 16, 2009
The HSE is now targeting the swine flu vaccine at children aged 6 months to 5 years. It is also advising pregnant women that they should get the vaccine, but reminding parents that the vaccine is not suitable for infants under 6 months.
Children aged 6 months to 5 years i.e. those born between 1 November 2004 and 1 May 2009, are now being offered the vaccine. The HSE is now writing to parents to let them know when it is time to bring in their younger children. When you get this letter, it will have details of the date, time and venue of the nearest vaccination clinic. However, if that doesn’t suit, you can free-phone 1800 94 1100 for an appointment.
Getting the vaccine protects your child from swine flu. It also protects people around them, as they won’t be passing it on to family, friends, elderly relatives or someone close to them who is not in full health. So, the more people that get the vaccine, the less flu gets passed around.
Children aged 5 – 18 years are to be offered vaccination during December 2009 in their schools.
